Rania Wazir, Ph.D., is co-founder and CTO of leiwand.ai – a startup dedicated to supporting companies and organizations with the development and deployment of trustworthy AI. Rania is a data scientist and mathematician, focussing on the development of tools and methods for the evaluation of AI system quality and algorithmic bias, as well as risk and impact assesments. She leads the leiwand.ai team in projects such as investigations into algorithmic bias for the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, as well as piloting the AI Act mandated Union Testing Facilities for the EC. She participates in international standardization on AI, and has a leadership role in ISO/IEC 12792 (Transparency of AI Systems) and EN 18283 (the CEN/CLC bias project in support of the AI Act). She also participates in the Council of Europe’s HUDERIA Platform, supporting the practical implementation and interoperability of the CoE’s framework on AI impact assessment. Rania is member of the advisory committee on the ethics of AI for the Austrian UNESCO commission, as well as of the EU AI Advisory Forum.
